2ND GRADE: STARRY NIGHT

Students began this exciting lesson by visiting Google Art Project, an online virtual tour of many art museums. They were able to look at the painting, The Starry Night,  close enough to see all the brush strokes that Vincent Van Gogh used!! After this, students were eager to get started on their own version of the famous painting. Students used liquid watercolor, construction paper crayons and paper to make these amazing pieces of art! 2ND GRADE: COOL AND WARM COLOR LANDSCAPES

 

2ND GRADE: PINCH POTS

 Students learned to make pinch pots by rolling a smooth ball of clay. To make a hole in the center students used their thumb!

 Students used their hands like a claw to pinch the clay to make the opening in the center bigger.

 Clay tools and other items were used to create textures and designs on their clay pot.

After the clay was dry students glazed them with their color of choice. After the kiln they looked like this....

2ND GRADE: TEXTURED LIZARDS

 Students learned about lizards and that they like to live where it is hot! They also learned how to draw them!! First students used line and shape to create their lizards body, head, eyes, legs and toes!

 Students learned that artist can show texture on a flat piece of paper by repeating various lines. They gave their lizards lots of cool texture!!

 Next, students colored them in with bright colors! A colorful background was added with lines to show that the lizard was moving!

2ND GRADE: PICASSO PORTRAITS

 2nd grade learned about Spanish artist Pablo Picasso! They were very excited to learn about this very famous artist! Students learned that one of Picasso's favorite subjects to paint are portraits. But, not just any portrait. He used his signature style of Cubism to make his paintings abstract. Picasso would often paint both the front view and profile of a person at the same time! 2nd graders began by drawing an abstract head and nose in profile. The colored in the parts and cut out and glued the head to a contrasting background.

Next, students drew, cut out and glued eyes, ears, mouths, hair and whatever else they could think of to their head.

2ND GRADE: CALDER COLOR MOBILES

 2nd Graders learned about Pennsylvania artist Alexander Calder and his mobiles. Calder invented mobiles and the students learned that he loved to use primary and secondary colors in his hanging metal sculptures.








The students artwork was based on Calders mobiles. They drew 3 loopy lines and colored in the 3 biggest loops with primary color Payons.

The smaller loops were made into secondary colors  by mixing 2 primary colors together. When painted with water, Payons turn into bright watercolors!
