Welcome to the 2011-2012 Art Gallery!!!

Hello! A new school year is soon beginning.....which means new art work in the gallery! As soon as art class is up an running I will begin to add photos of the lessons. Each lesson will have photos of students working on the project as well as some finished pieces. Please stop back often to see what is happening in each grade. I teach 1st-6th grade art so I have a separate tab for each grade. Just click on the tabs on the right to view the grade of choice! I'm looking forward to a creative year!!!

3RD GRADE: PETER DIEM COWS

 Thanks to kidsartists for introducing me to the artist Peter Deim & for the lesson idea! The students loved creating and painting these colorful cows!

1ST GRADE" MATISSE STILL LIFE WATERCOLORS

 Students looked at Henri Matisse's painting, "Sideboard" to get inspiration for their watercolor still-life paintings. Still-life paintings are the second type of painting that the students were learning about.

Students were also learning how to create lighter and darker colors by adding more or less water to their watercolors. 

1ST GRADE: PATTERNED LANDSCAPES

 1st grade learned about one type of art called a landscape. A landscape is any artwork with land in it! Pattern was one of the elements of art that the students were learning about as well.

3RD GRADE: NAVAJOWEAVING

After watching a video about Master Navajo weavers from Southwestern USA, students were eager to begin weaving with yarn.

To start weaving on their loom, students had to first add their warp yarns. These yarns run from top to bottom.

After these were on, they began weaving their weft yarns which run left to right. Students had to practice a plain weave for their first 2 color choices. This weave is just the basic over one under one pattern.

 After they got the hang of the basics, I showed them how to add beads, tie on loops and use other materials such as ribbon and raffia to weave.

When they were finished with their weaving they learned to take the weaving off the loom by cutting and tying, 2 at a time,  the warp strings at the bottom.

The loops at the top of the weaving can simply be slipped off of the notches. Students could trim their long weft yarns if desired or add beads to the fringes!
