4th grade students studied artwork by Op Artists Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely. Op Artists try to trick your eye and make it look like an optical illusion. Students loved looking at this style of art!!
They began by drawing the circle in pencil and then added curved lines so that it looks rounded or like a sphere.
After the lines were drawn on the sphere, they drew a checkerboard background. The background made the sphere look like it was popping off of the page!
Students chose a contrasting color to fill in every other square to create the checkerboard pattern. Neatness was encouraged.
Students finished by adding a shadow with artist charcoal to help pop the sphere off of the page.
